The Central Geographical Library (Geographische Zentralbibliothek, GZB) at the IfL is one of the largest specialist geographical libraries in Germany. Its main emphasis is literature on human geography, augmented by physical geography and related disciplines such as planning, regional history and cartography. The GZB has a collection of around 4000 books published before 1850, some of them very valuable. An important part of the collection are the 60,000 maps as well as statistical materials.

In the reading room, the latest literature is available to everyone. If necessary, the staff help with the search in the collections. More recent publications can be found on the GZB´s online catalog, which contains a total of over 150,000 records, including numerous articles from geographical journals.
