Lectures on the "marshutkra mobility phenomenon"

IfL participates in the program of the lecture series "Infrastructure" hosted by the Institute of Ethnology and the Institute of African Studies of the University of Leipzig

Infrastructure is the topic of the international lecture series, organised by the Institute of Ethnology and the Institute of African Studies in this summer semester. Lectures take place every Monday from 5 to 7 pm in lecture hall 4 in the lecture hall building in Universitätsstrasse 3.

On May 20, Wladimir Sgibnev will discuss the topic "Marshrutka Mobility Infrastructures: Regulations, Materials, Fluidities"; In the following event on May 27, Lela Rekhviashvili will focus on the social dimension of the "marshrutka mobility phenomenon". The title of her presentation is "Marshrutka Mobility Infrastructures: Marketization, Social Embeddedness, Informality".

Both lecturers conduct research on mobility and migration at the Leibniz Institute for Regional Geography. As part of a collaborative research project, they have examined how marschrutkas (small motorized passenger transporters) are creating new orders of economy, urban development, migration and morality in Central Asia and the Caucasus.
