Collaborative Research Centre (SFB) 1199: Processes of Spatialization under the Global Condition

In January 2016 a new collaborative research center “Processes of Spatialization under the Global Condition” (SFB 1199) has started. In this project researchers from diverse disciplines work together: geographers, historians and cultural scientists, africanists and americanists, orientalists and sinologists, as well as anthropologists and political scientists. IfL and the Leibniz Institute for the History and Culture of Eastern Europe (GWZO) are partners of the Leipzig University in this SFB. IfL participates with four research projects:

  • Peripheral but global: world market leaders outside of agglomerations (project A2)

  • “Our field is the world”: an international comparison of geographical societies 1821–1914 (project C1)

  • Maps of globalization: the production and the visualization of spatial knowledge (project C5)

  • Cross-border assemblages of medical practices (project B5)
