Against this background, the IfL develops a project with the aim to analyse existing approaches to strengthen research in this field and to formulate recommendations for future urban and regional development. The research focus of this research project are new forms of land use, such as increasing subsistence farming in urban areas. Furthermore, new economic and housing practices in the face of insufficient energy supply, mobility and immobility as well as government and international development programmes and their impact will be studied within the research programme.

In the preliminary phase of the project, the IfL will expand its research networks through establishing new contacts and partnerships especially in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. The results of the preliminiary research will be used to develop a full research proposal to be submitted to funding bodies.
